Rome Nightlife

You've been looking at museums and walking all day. It's time to take a break and see what modern Rome is all about. Hang out with the locals and learn about modern Rome and what the people do there. There are a few great clubs in Rome that are good for doing just that. Europeans love to dance and they love jazz, eighties and a variety of other types of music. The clubs in Rome are packed with dancing, drinking and partying all night long. They are the perfect place to let your hair down, dress scantily and forget about the Vatican Museums.

Alien is the place to go if you are looking for a dance club. The bar has a sci-fi theme, but you will never notice it. The dance floors are always packed. This is the premiere spot if you are looking to hang out with local university students. The music is often disco or techno and a great place to just dance. There is also a section in the bar for hanging out where the music is not as loud. Alien is located on Via Velletri 13-19.

Caffe Latino features Latin American music and is the place where Rome 's thirty-somethings like to hang. They also offer disco dancing as well as live entertainment through cabaret, films and cartoons. You will also find live music from local bands. Caffe Latino is located on Via Testaccio 96.

Not far from Caffe Latino is L'Alibi. L'Alibi is Rome 's premier gay club. The club tends to attract more men, but of late has had a good mix. The club offers dancing to seventies and eighties music and features outdoor dance floors in the summer. Located on Via Testaccio 40-44.

Radio Londra features dancing, music and great Italian pizza all in one. This club offers live music four nights a week and has a pizza bar located on its second level. The pizza bar and pub are above the dance floors and often have live music as well. The crowd can be pretty vibrant with body piercings and tattoos, but the music is loud and the crowd is wild. Located on Via Monte Testaccio 67.

If you are looking for a more tasteful and upper-class locale, check out Gilda. Gilda is where Rome 's finest come to hang out. Politicians and celebrities can often be found here. There is a dress code and jackets are required for men. The bar features a piano bar and disco dancing with two dance floors. Gilda also offers a pizzeria for some late night snacking. Expect to pay a fairly high admission, around forty euros. Gilda is located on Via Mario de' Fiori 97.

Ready for a variety of music? Check out Black Out where the party is going all night long. There are two dance floors with music from Brit pop, indie, rock and grunge. If you need a breather from the dance floor, there is also a room for socializing with friends and meeting Rome 's locals. Located on Via Saturnia 18.

Tired of the dance floor and just want a drink, then head down to Night & Day. This is a simple pub where you can just relax after a day of sightseeing. The bar gets busy around 2:00am when most of the dance clubs close for the night. Open from 5:00pm to 5:00am, this is one of the most popular pubs near Piazza del Popolo. Foreigners even get drink cards that reduces the price of drinks by about a euro. Night & Day is located on Via dell'Oca 50.

As with any night on the town, make sure you have a reliable way home. The cabs in Rome are not as bad as some other foreign cities but it is always best to be safer than sorry. On your way home, be sure to check out the Colosseum in its glowing beauty. The old ruins glow with the night-lights of the city and it is a truly beautiful sight to see.
